Teen Parents

Unlike the days of yore Teen Parents aren’t that uncommon, and more and more these days you will see young teenaged Parents. It might have been the norm in the dark- and the middle ages but it definitely wasn’t the case about twenty years back. Teen Parents were a scandal that had to be avoided at all costs, and many Parents of these soon to be teen Parents, would take it upon themselves to make sure that no scandal rocked their world.

Depending on the age of the soon to be Teen Parents and their family backgrounds, you would get a variety of approaches to taking care of this “little problem”. And depending on the impending grandParents’ temperament as well you might get a nice and tidy end to this whole situation that might or might not agree with what the Teen Parents want.

These methods could and did range from marrying the expecting Teen Parents in what was fondly – and quite accurately – termed a shotgun wedding. The father of the bride used to stand over the groom with a loaded shotgun. Quaint custom but it got the job done.

And if a wedding wasn’t on the cards you always had the option of spiriting away the young mother-to-be to some remote location where no one knew her and where she could have the baby in complete anonymity. In this scenario the Teen Parents didn’t get to see their baby, instead the baby was given up for adoption or given to good people to raise as their own.

This case scene could of course, branch out into yet more options, but the outcome was that the Teen Parents weren’t able to raise the child on their own even if they wanted to. Yet another option was to have an abortion. For some this was the easiest option and was the least hassle all around. A quick run down to the clinic and no one would be any the wiser.

In fact many Teen Parents take this option even today. These days they don’t even tell their Parents of the impending pregnancy but go ahead with it on their own. All in all however, teen Parenting although easier these days, is still not a walk in the park.

For one thing most Teen Parents don’t have the necessary background support to deal with their impending Parenthood, and for another thing the teens of today unfortunately have no sense of moral or ethical responsibility etched in them. This isn’t their fault but it is nonetheless a sad and true fact. And until this is attended to, then no matter what the day and age, Teen Parents still won’t be ready for the responsibility and reality of being a Parent.
